What began as an opportunity spotted from the roadside has grown into one of the area’s most talked-about food and stay destinations.

When Paul and Laura Bolton acquired The Plough, they brought with them decades of experience across hospitality, property, and restaurant development. Their vision was simple: create a place people would go out of their way to visit — not just pass by.

Today, that vision is being realised.

The Plough now welcomes over 45,000 guests each year, with a growing reputation built on consistency, quality, and word of mouth. Our Sunday roasts have become a standout, drawing guests from across the region, while throughout the week our kitchen showcases more refined, seasonal dishes through an evolving specials offering.

At the heart of the kitchen is Head Chef Graham McKell, whose approach combines classic foundations with modern touches, helping to shape a menu that continues to develop and improve.

We’ve also become a popular stop for those travelling between England and Scotland, with guests discovering us en route and returning time and again. Our five-star accredited rooms offer a comfortable, high-quality stay, and with four new rooms currently under construction, we’re continuing to invest in what The Plough can offer.

While much has changed, what hasn’t is the aim: great food, warm hospitality, and a place that feels worth the journey.
